my mom called me yesterday to inform me that a guy i grew up with died from pneumonia. back home in the filipino community, everyone is family. there are pictures of derek and i when we were babies. his dad comments on them every time i see him.
derek was also married to my "cousin" aubrey. i just saw them at my grandfather's funeral a few months back. they were excited trying to start a family.
my heart goes out to his dad. he has buried his wife and both of his sons. he has no other family left.
i should be home for his funeral. this whole situation breaks my heart and reminds me how short and fragile life can be. hug and kiss those you love today.
