pics: some of the room of hope. it is so hard to take a decent pic of it all, but you get the gist! there was also a bathroom, but it was really hard to photograph.
ramsay's bday. this pics makes me laugh because the cover on my camera lense doesn't always open (like in this case), poor brian is on the chopping block!
so i'm in love with the durham rescue mission. i hadn't served a meal yet until saturday. i brought miss brittany with me (like our times together in DC). we served a yummy BBQ lunch the newhoper's made on the men's campus. we sat and talked with some of the kind gentlemen there. robert came to DRM from wilmington. he needed to change his life and needed help. he told me one of his greatest practices is to read 2 scriptures out loud all day long, but mostly to read psalm 70-71 out loud every day. those passages speak directly to his anger/temper issues and he wants to give control of those things to the holy spirit on a daily basis. he is also an avid redskins fan, so we chatted about how we need to get dan snyder out of there! haha.
i then chatted with michael. he just got to durham the night before. he came down from buffalo, NY. he was into some things he knew was not good for his life and found the DRM on the internet. he read the testimonies of what changes many have undergone through the DRM's program and knew he needed to get away from home to change his life. he doesn't know a soul down here, but knew he had to do it. i commended him for his leap of faith and choice to be a better man. if you think about robert and michael, consider praying for them today and that they will find that change they seek. and consider coming to serve them lunch with us next month and meeting them!
we then went over to the women's campus to put some finishing touches on the room newhope adopted. i still need to install the bathroom door and a couple towel rods (although i have NO idea what i am doing-if you do and want to help me, just lemme know!). the room turned out gorgeous! those at the mission say thanks as well-their exact words is that the room is "absolutely amazing!". thanks again to all those who participated with any of it!
i then had to go to a potluck for my neighbors who are moving away. it was fun to hang out with the neighbors! the kids love to play with all the other kids.
went home and showered for ramsay's birthday. they hired a driver to pick us up and we all went out to downtown raleigh. ramsay said i could only go if brian went because he didn't want to be the only guy dancing. hahaha. he was still the only guy dancing! it was a blast! and miss heather and jamie watched my kids for me-sweet as ever!!!!! and can i just tell you how hilarious driver dave was? i sat up front with him on the way home-he makes me miss home! i guess i was distracting him too much because he got pulled over while we were on our way home. he was NOT happy!
and while doing yard work, brian got bitten by something, so his arm swelled up majorly and he had a line going up his arm. thank goodness crystal told us to get it checked out! he is now on a bunch of medications to stop the infection!!!!!

I honestly can't say this enough...you are amazing! I wish I knew a better word. The things you are able to accomplish and the way you look at life and God. Thank you so much for blogging about these things and being such a witness and example to us all. I already tutor at the mission, but would love to come and serve a meal sometime. Keep me posted on the next time.
