oh the violence!

the older i get, the more sensitive my stomach seems to get. but i have always had particular fears, stemming from being at a birthday party at the ripe age of 12 feeling peer-pressured to watch "silence of the lambs". i remember going home and just crying to my dad, confessing that i had watched it, but also scared to go to sleep. it really did traumatize me.

fast forward to today. i still cannot watch things on serial killers and such. sure, i watch vampire movies or sci-fi stuff (since it's not real) and as long as it's not too gory. i used to faithfully watch all of the CSI's and like shows, but have noticed myself removing them from my DVR que. the plots and horrific murders committed literally hurt my soul. it just makes me physically sick that people do these kinds of things to each other.

we rented smokin aces a couple weeks ago, really having no idea what it was about. BAD IDEA. it was sick, a bunch of assassins plotting to get a million for killing one guy. (alicia keys being one of them!). but just the total lack for human life in the entire movie, on top of the gory scenes was just too much for me. it was over the top gross, IMO.

we then rented the bank job and even though that was way less horrific, what little violence it had in there still just bothered me senseless. (oh and it has a lot of nudity which we had no idea, so a for-warning if that is not something you care to watch). i find myself not able to sleep thinking there are just people out there hurting so much that they cause this kind of harm to others.

and don't get me started on that show "dexter" on showtime (i think). a serial killer who only kills bad guys, because then it's ok?!?!?!?!! they had this 4 page ad spread in my US weekly "interviewing" him and everything. it was ridiculous.

i guess i just value human life a little too much-it's never too early to have a purpose in life and never too late in my opinion (which is why i am pro-life and anti-death penalty). maybe God is just making me more sensitive to these things, as it is so easy to be de-sensitized by watching so much violence on the regular, thinking it's just how things are or should be.

ok, done ranting.

Oh- we just rented the Bank Job last week and it was FULL of nudity...not at all what we expected and the fact that it was based on a true story was indeed, the most unsettling of it all! :(

It may have un-traumatized you to hear my sister (several years ago) over dinner doing her imitation of Hannibal Lechter's famous line and she messed it up and said "chianti beans" by mistake. haha It was too cute:)

But seriously, I hear you loud and clear. I can watch a lot of things but crazy horror that can really happen to you really effects me. Aside from disturbing people, I think they give people ideas. It's scary all around.

i was traumatized by silence of the lambs, too - also peer pressured into watching it.... sigh... and the campy horror movie 'house' when i was 9...terrified. i don't watch any of those movies. they literally haunt me.

uh oh.. surprisingly, I was the one that did the peer pressuring. "Its just a movie... geez."
