the reader

well my official review of this movie probably won't be too informative. it was mildly disturbing to see how emotionally damaging the love affair was between a 15 year old boy and an older woman, who was already severely emotionally damaged herself. kate winslet has no problem strutting her stuff, as the first 30 minutes were graphic love scenes. (i had no idea-i never even read a review, i just kind of went with a friend!!!).

the grown up version of the boy (ralph fiennes) made it worth watching. i just enjoy his grace/temperment in his acting. i didn't like him in "maid in manhattan" very much, but he is charming in all of his other movies.

and of course, my stomach never sits well while having to listen to any accounts of the holocaust. i literally get that sinking feeling of just total sorrow over the whole situation. kate's character even came across as slow, like her mind had no idea what she was really doing at that time.

if you are looking for a movie that makes you think, or to prove to you why you need to make wise certain moral choices (both for kate and for ralph's character later in his life), than you should see this. if you are not into sadness, slow-paced flicks, or graphic love scenes, then do not see this :) HTH!
